10 International Scientific Meeting, Malaysia. 5-8th June 2012
Date: 2012-06-05 to 2012-06-08
Official website Welcome Note Nurse Siti Aminah from Kudat in Borneo is just one of many front line Malaysian health care staff working in remote areas of the country. International Medical conferences provide a valuable opportunity for professionals to meet and to exchange ideas. However, it is rare that such conferences take place in areas where the challenges exist. Sarawak offers a unique opportunity along with a brand new convention centre located in the heart of Kuching. Sarawak is known for its large tracts of rainforests which sustain scores of culturally diverse communities. The rainforests also nurture orangutans, hornbills and the world’s largest flower, the Rafflesia. However, I know it will be the people of the state who will make the difference. Even in the remotest longhouse, in the most isolated part of the jungle, you will be greeted as if you were a long lost friend. With so much on offer, many of you will want to take the opportunity to explore the state’s wealth of attractions. Organising large conferences is not a new challange to the Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Malaysia (OGSM); we successfully organised the FIGO 2006 World Congress in Kuala Lumpur. Accommodating 8,000 local and international delegates was a challenge but one which we handled admirably. We are now in a strong position to organise the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists International Scientific Meeting 2012. We also have the support of the Ministry of Health of Malaysia, in addition to key organisations within the country. My secretariat and I know that this contrast between the traditional and contemporary aspects of Sarawak will definitely appeal to delegates who attend the scientific meeting. Kuching is a city on the move with a new international airport, state-of-the-art convention centre, as well as impressive new hotels. We also appreciate that many attendees will want to give back to Sarawak, perhaps through the Heart to Heart Orang Utan programme and Charity Dinner for Womens Health. Welcome to Sarawak, Malaysia! We have solid infrastructure and excellent conference facilities in place; and we promise you a successful, enjoyable and fruitful scientific meeting. We also have health professionals such as Nurse Siti Aminah, who will benefit greatly from being able to meet with international experts. Along with Nurse Siti Aminah and my secretariat, I welcome you to Sarawak and Malaysia; be touched by a welcome that comes from the heart. Dr Gunasegaran PT Rajan, FRCOG Chairman Congress Secretariat RCOG 2012 |

XX FIGO WORLD CONGRESS OF GYNECOLOGY AND OBSTETRICS - FIGO ROME 2010
Date: 2012-10-07 to 2012-10-12
Official website Message from the FIGO President 2 XX FIGO World Congress of Gynecology & Obstetrics Rome, Italy Message from the FIGO President Dear Colleagues, It is my great pleasure to extend to you my warm invitation to attend the forthcoming XX FIGO World Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics to be held in the beautiful city of Rome, Italy, October 7-12, 2012. Rome will provide the unforgettable setting for this triennial congress. In Rome there will be a wealth of opportunities, professional, social, spiritual and cultural. There has been a real progress in women’s and newborns’ health care. However, this progress is far from what had been anticipated by the international community remembering that our time horizon to reach MDGs is now only five years. This Congress will explore women's health issues from the view points of world renowned clinicians, those who develop scientific knowledge and those who devise policies for health care. It is important that we bring to you in Rome the fascinating new techniques and developments in our profession in a balanced programme which covers the contemporary issues in the field of gynaecology and obstetrics and observing a priority to evidence based practices in primary health care and preventive aspects in Women’s and Newborns’ health. FIGO Congress Scientific Programme Committee chaired by Prof. William Dunlop (UK) and vicechaired by Prof. Joanna Cain (USA) is making special efforts to involve subspecialty world societies to participate in the meeting. They shall bring the participants to the cutting edge knowledge in the different subspecialties of our profession. A land mark in the scientific programme of this Congress is that for the first time the newly established FIGO Committee for capacity building in education and training in collaboration with Congress Scientific Committee will organise a number of precongress workshops and post graduate courses. These workshops and courses will cover various topics of interest to the general obstetricians and gynaecologists, in addition to our traditional successful sexual and reproductive health workshop. The Congress Organising Committee chaired by Prof. Jacques Milliez (France) and co-chaired by Prof. Lord Naren Patel (UK) is working very hard and in close collaboration with FIGO Events and Meetings Manager Miss Marta Collins and the local Italian Organising Committee appointed by the Italian Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (SIGO) and chaired by Prof. Giorgio Vittori. They are looking into all the details of local arrangements to make your stay in Rome during the Congress most enjoyable, comfortable and affordable. I cordially welcome to this Congress my fellow obstetricians and gynaecologists from all over the world, representatives of our 124 member societies, leaders from partnership organisations, sister professional organisations particularly ICM, IPA, ESHRE, IFFS, policy makers, parliamentarians, residents in training, medical students and patient’s groups. You all shall find a number of windows to participate in this multidisciplinary congress. Please do mark your calendar from now and I can assure you that you will enjoy it and it will be a memorable event for many years to come. Looking forward to seeing you in Rome October 2012. Yours sincerely, Gamal Serour President – FIGO |
